Mothers

After a rather long hiatus I've decided to resume updating my blog and I hope to be more regular.

The previous two posts have been on 'Mothers'. The first post was on my 'Earthly Mother' & the next on my 'Celestial Mother'. This post, I'd like to write generally on us 'Mothers'

I believe we've come a long way since our previous generations. I remember living in a joint family with my parents, siblings, uncle (dad's brother), his wife and their children, and also my widowed aunt (my dad's sister) with her daughter. My grandmother was the head of the family. My dad and his brother made all their decisions after consulting my grandma and not their wives. My mum and aunt obeyed my grandma without any resistance - not out of fear, but out of genuine respect. That was a different era, where age was respected. Mothers were most importantly the nurturers of the homes.

Cut back to today’s mothers - We are multi-taskers, sole decision makers, some of us even having higher educational qualifications and are a lot more self confident.

I am not an advocator for modern mothers or our predecessors.

Even though my husband and I are more often on the same wave length, parenting today is a challenging vocation. I often remember single parents' struggle.

Sometimes, I wonder if we are nurturers or routers to provide material comfort.

I thank you for going through this topic and would greatly appreciate your view points.

Tabernacle

The following meanings are listed in the Oxford dictionary for the word 'Tabernacle':

1. A tent sanctuary used by the Israelites during the Exodus.
2. A dwelling place.
3. A temporary shelter.
4. A receptacle for the consecrated elements of the Eucharist; especially : an ornamental locked box used for reserving the Communion hosts.
5. A house of worship; specifically : a large building or tent used for evangelistic services.

On the last novena day in preparation for the feast of the nativity of the mother of Jesus, I heard one of our Catechist speak and draw parallels between the 'Tabernacle' and the 'womb of the mother of Jesus'. Both he said are one and the same, where something precious is temporarily locked inside.

Wow! what a revelation to know that we women are 'Tabernacles'.

Happy birthday Mother Mary! Pray for us women that we too may have the grace to say “Yes” to fulfil the 'Divine Plan' in our lives.

Tribute to 'MAI' on her birthday

Couldn't have been a better day to write my first post
than on my mum's birthday today. She left for her heavenly abode on 15th January this year.

We miss you 'MAI'

She loved the picture of Angels at my home and so, I reproduce the text I found on the book-mark I have in my Bible.

She is surely an angel looking after us till we meet again.

Angels are the guardians of hope and wonder, the keepers of magic and dreams.

Angels watch over you wherever you go, keeping each day perfect and promising a bright new tomorrow.

The motto of all Angels is
"it's a wonderful life".

Wherever there is love, an angel is flying by.

Angels help you carry the ball, carry a tune, carry your weight and carry on!

Your guardian angel knows you inside out and loves you just the way you are.

Angels keep the world safe for humming birds and butterflies and rainbows in spring.

Angels keep it simple and always travel light.

Angels love whispering secrets and whistling in the dark. Whenever you hear music, an angel is speaking to you.

Remember to leave space in your relationships so the angels have room to play.

Your guardian angel helps you find a place when you feel there's no place to go.

Keep a spare angel in you pocket.

Angels carry high-beam lights to help you through the darkest hours.

Whenever you feel lonely, a special angel drops in for tea.

Angels know that love is the only four letter word.

We are always "angels on call" for a friend.

Every time you hear a bell, another angel has earned its wings.

Angels are with you every step of the way and help you soar with amazing grace.

After all, we are angels in training; all we have to do is spread our wings and fly.
